Threats

Poison-Puffers are enemies in Raft. They are one of multiple threats to the player.

Summary

The Poison-Puffer is a small, yellow fish that only lives underwater at certain Large Islands. The Poison-Puffer attacks by swimming towards you, and when it is close enough, it will explode into a large cloud of poison gas, causing rapid damage to the player. Once defeated, you may wish to collect your arrows from the corpse before looting, as you will not get your arrows back when looting its body. The Poison-Puffer Head is used in the Recipe "Head Broth. The Poison-Puffer also drops one Explosive Goo, with a 33% chance of dropping a second. These can be used to make Explosive Powder. Poison-Puffer can typically be spotted just below the surface as they emit small bubbles that rise and pop at the surface. Once a Poison-Puffer detects the player, it will follow them for as long as the player remains in the water and in sight of the fish.

Strategies

  • To kill the Poison-Puffer, a Spear or a Bow is recommended, although the bow is definitely the safest. It takes 6 Stone Arrow hits (7 on hard), or 3 Metal Arrows hits (4 on hard) to kill the Puffer-Fish.
  • (Spear) When you find a Puffer-Fush, start the fight by letting it chase you. Back away until ready to attack, then move forward, stab it and immediately move back again in a fluent motion. Repeat.
  • (Bow) When the Poison-Puffer is chasing you, begin backing up and start firing arrows. Keep in mind that arrows travel much slower underwater, so you will need to remain closer to your target than you would above water.

Avoiding the Poison-Puffer

  • The Poison-Puffer emits a slow, continuous stream of bubbles that can be heard on the surface. When planning to dive near large islands, listen for the unique sound, and avoid the area.
